A Letter to my Twins

A Letter to my Twins

Dear Tessa and Gavin,

When your daddy and I got married on December 2, 2017, we knew it was only a matter of time until God blessed us with a baby.  Expanding our family was our biggest goal in life, one that we constantly prayed that God would allow us to do so one day. Whether it be right away, or later in life, we knew one day you would be ours.  On July 27, my life changed forever when I found out I was pregnant. Although it was quite a shock to happen so quickly, it was the biggest blessing in my heart. Knowing I had to wait 9 months to see you felt like an eternity, but I knew you would be worth the wait.  On August 30, your daddy and I found out there would not only be one baby, but two! Our heart grew double that day. God truly knew what we needed and it was the both of you. How on earth did I get so lucky?

Daddy and I talked to the both of you every night.  We gave you kisses, sang you songs, and prayed for a healthy pregnancy and birth.  We got to see your pictures every time we went to the doctor and each day that went on, it felt more real that soon we would be a family of four.  We prepared your room, washed and hung your clothes in the closet to prepare for your arrival. We bounced back and forth on your names, but in our hearts, we knew exactly the names meant for you.  Tessa Grace was chosen for you sweet girl because we knew we wanted something so beautiful, yet a little bit different. By the “grace” of God, we were able to expand our family, so we wanted to honor that by placing it in your name.  Also, your first name spelled backwards is “asset” which means “something of value”. We knew sweet girl that you would bring so much value to our family. Gavin John was chosen for you my little boy because it means “God-Send”. We knew before you were born that you were a blessing from God.  Your middle name, John, was given to you for many reasons. Your late great-grandfather’s middle name was John. He was gracious and always put others before himself. He was compassionate and kind, and always did for others. It is an honor for me to give you his name, sweet boy. In addition, your other great grandfather is Ettore John.  Another great example of a compassionate, giving man who always is courteous and giving to other people. Lastly, you were also named after your third great-grandfather, John Gigliotti who also is gracious and giving to others. Your great-grandfather John, makes people happy, and is generous in his ways. What a blessing it is that he is able to know you.  Our hope is that one day, you carry these same traits as these three men, by being compassionate, forgiving, and courageous.

The day you were born was the greatest day of our lives, and one we will never forget.  The moment we heard your cries our hearts grew double the size. We had looked forward to this moment from the day we knew you existed.  You both were so beautiful, and as they placed you in our arms, our purpose in life came into fruition. God has answered our prayers. Two healthy, beautiful babies, what more could we ask for in life?  Tessa Grace and Gavin John, you have only been in this world for 3 months, but you have changed our lives forever and have filled our hearts with greater joy. There is nothing better in this life than being your parents.  We promise to try our best, but we may fail at times. We promise to always love you, even if you make mistakes. We promise to comfort you in good times and in bad times, all the days of our life. We promise to hold your hand when you get scared, to cry with you and to laugh with you.  We promise we will support your decisions and cheer you along the way. We will pray for you, and pray with you in times of need. We will show you the world, although it can be a scary place. We will show you to see the good in others, even if they have their flaws. We will teach you to try your best, but if you fall, that’s okay too.  Get back up, stand on your two feet and try again. Never let someone tell you that you can’t do something, and if they do, show them at you can. Work hard at everything you do in life, and always try to be the best version of yourself. Stay strong in your faith, because sometimes it may be the only thing you can lean on. Believe in yourself and follow your heart.  Stand up for what you believe in, but also stand up for others who do not have a voice. Most importantly, you both share a bond that nobody else can break. Be there for each other, love one another, help guide each other through life. One day, you both will need each other more than you will ever know.

Tessa and Gavin, thank you for changing our lives.  Thank you for answering our prayers. We promise we will do the best that we can to give you the best life you both deserve.  Stay true to yourself, and always be kind. Because kindness is the language that everyone understands. Follow your dreams and no matter where life takes you, always remember where you came from.  Pray each day for a healthy, blessed life because tomorrow is never promised. We love you now and forever, and we hope you always know that.

Forever and Always,

Mommy and Daddy
